“My Funny Valentine: Miles Davis In Concert” marks several historical turning points: It was Davis’s last time recording standards. It is also one of the last documents from the same band that created “Seven Steps to Heaven.” The concert, a benefit to support voter registration in the South and a fundraiser for the NAACP, the Congress of Racial Equality, and the SNCC, took place at the height of the Civil Rights Movement—a cause close to Miles Davis’s heart.

On this legendary recording, pianist Herbie Hancock, bassist Ron Carter, drummer Tony Williams, and tenor saxophonist George Coleman play on equal footing with the master: The performance brims with lightness and bebop melodies, showcasing the quintet’s lyrical range and telepathic communication. Miles Davis himself avoided his controversial avant-garde tendencies and seemed to receive divine inspiration that night, February 12, 1964, at New York’s Philharmonic Hall—he never sounded more elegant and poetic!

The 180-gram SuperVinyl LP from Mobile Fidelity was meticulously mastered at the MoFi studio in California: breathtaking depth, dynamics, clarity, atmosphere, and significantly reduced background noise characterize this reissue, cut at 33 rpm, produced by Fidelity Record Pressing, and strictly limited to 3,000 numbered copies. The meticulous tonal balance of the MoFi SuperVinyl offers a unique opportunity to relive this unforgettable jazz concert!
