Mahler: Symphony No. 6 (Daniel Harding) (CD, Br-Klassik)

With the live recording of Gustav Mahler’s Sixth Symphony, Daniel Harding now presents himself as a Mahler conductor after his first CD recording on the BR-KLASSIK label (Schumann’s Faust scenes, BR-KLASSIK, 900122). Daniel Harding, who counts Sir Simon Rattle and Claudio Abbado among his teachers, has repeatedly drawn attention to himself as a guest of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra with spectacular concerts since 2005. In a live recording from 2014 from the Munich Philharmonic in Gasteig, BR-KLASSIK publishes one of Mahler’s most unusual symphonies, whose dark, multi-layered score can be seen in contrast to the outer, happy circumstances of their creation. Weltkasse conductor Daniel Harding demonstrates great artistic flexibility and meets an ensemble with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra that has been one of the pioneers among Mahler interpreters since the Kubelík era in the 1960s.
