Beethoven: Symphonies Nos. 7 & 8 (Mariss Jansons) (CD, Br-Klassik)

The Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra has performed several concerts with Beethoven symphony cycles. The former chief conductor Mariss Jansons, who died in 2019, has expanded this cycle idea in several ways: to concerts in Tokyo’s Suntory Hall with its excellent acoustics, to specially commissioned compositions in which contemporary composers have contributed their own musical reflections on Beethoven symphonies, as well on the presentation of the outstanding concert events in live recordings in the sound carrier market. The live recordings of symphonies No. 7 and No. 8 were made in 2012 in the Suntory Hall of Tokyo with their spectacularly good acoustics and were very well received by the public and the trade press. Soon after the tour, the Music Pen Club Japan paid tribute to Mariss Jansons for his new, modern and transparent sounding Beethoven image. Jörg Widmann (* 1973), one of the most important representatives of a younger generation of composers, contributed to the current examination of the Seventh and Eighth Symphonies under the title Con brio.
