Beethoven: Symphonies Nos. 1 & 2 (Mariss Jansons) (CD, Br-Klassik)

The Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra has performed several concerts with Beethoven symphony cycles. Mariss Jansons, who died in 2019, expanded this cycle idea in a number of ways: to guest concerts in Tokyo’s Suntory Hall with its excellent acoustics, to specially commissioned compositions in which contemporary composers contributed their own musical reflections on Beethoven symphonies, and through the Presentation of the outstanding concert events in live recordings on the sound carrier market. The live recordings of symphonies No. 1 and No. 2 were made in November 2012 in the Suntory Hall of Tokyo and were very well received by the public and the trade press. Soon after the tour, the Music Pen Club Japan paid tribute to Mariss Jansons for his new, modern and transparent sounding Beethoven image. The Tokyo-born composer Misato Mochizuki (* 1969) and the Austrian Johannes Maria Staud (* 1974) contributed to the current debates on the First and Second Symphonies. Mochizuki lives and works in Japan and Europe, where she works as a composition teacher, in master classes and as composer in residence and passes on her knowledge. Johannes Maria Staud took master classes with Brian Ferneyhough, among others, and has received numerous renowned composition prizes across Europe. His works have premiered at the Wiener Festwochen and the Salzburg Festival, among others.
