Mahler: Symphony No. 1 (Yannick Nezet-Seguin) (CD, Br-Klassik)

Since the era of its former chief conductor Rafael Kubelík, who founded the Mahler tradition of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra in the early 1960s, the music of the late romantic composer on the threshold of modernity has been an integral part of the orchestra’s repertoire. Mahler’s First (as part of an audio book CD) and the Seventh with Mariss Jansons and the Ninth with Bernard Haitink have already been published by BR-KLASSIK. The young Canadian conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin is making his debut on the BR-KLASSIK label with Mahler’s First Symphony. He is one of the most important representatives of a younger generation of conductors and has directed such renowned orchestras as the Berlin and Vienna Philharmonic since his European debut in 2004. Yannick Nézet-Séguin is currently chief conductor of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and the Philadelphia Orchestra.
