Denis Matsuev: Rhapsody (Mariss Jansons) (CD, Br-Klassik)

Five famous rhapsodies can be found on the latest CD from BR Klassik, which have been devised and developed by very different composers from various regions with a lot of imagination and local flavor. With his Rhapsodie España, the French Emmanuel Chabrier turned to Iberian music and folk music, which was so popular at the time, as did his more famous compatriot Maurice Ravel in his Rhapsodie Espagnole, whose four-movement structure still refers back to the symphonic formal structures that were actually long out of date. The Hungarian-born Franz Liszt will play the famous Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 and the Romanian George Enescu will play the hardly less well-known and popular Romanian Rhapsody.
