Part: Te Deum (Peter Dijkstra) (CD, Br-Klassik)

CDs by BR-KLASSIK and the Bavarian Radio Choir under the direction of Peter Dijkstra are regularly awarded high-ranking prizes, for example the album Strauss Wagner Mahler with the Diapason d or and Alfred Schnittke concert for choir with the ECHO Klassik. The current album with sacred music by Arvo Pärt is presented by the Bavarian Radio Choir in cooperation with the Munich Radio Orchestra. Both ensembles regularly perform together in their concert series and repeatedly perform sacred music from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries. The present CD production throws three highlights on compositions by the Estonian composer Arvo Pärt (* 1935) from the years 1984 and 1990, music that is indebted to the so-called Tintinnabuli style (Latin bell) created by Pärt himself. In the Te Deum, Pärt deliberately evades the traditional line of festive, sonorous forerunners as set out by Charpentier, Bruckner and Verdi. The pilgrimage song, a setting of the 121st Psalm, evokes the old Christian-Jewish tradition of psalm recitation. The Berlin fair is nicknamed because of the location of the premiere, which took place in 1990 in the local St. Hedwig’s Cathedral on the occasion of the German Catholic Day.
