Bruckner: Symphony No. 8 (CD, Br-Klassik)

Rafael Kubelík enriched the repertoire of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra with works by Czech composers and music from the 20th century. However, during his tenure as chief conductor of the orchestra from 1961 to 1979, he also maintained the traditional German-Romantic repertoire with which the orchestra had made a name for itself internationally since the founding years under Eugen Jochum. In May 1977 he conducted Bruckner’s Symphony No. 8 in C minor in a concert in the Herkulessaal in Munich, the recording of which is available here. In a review in the Süddeutsche Zeitung, the orchestra was rated as being on par with famous Bruckner orchestras such as the Berlin and Vienna Philharmonic.
