Anton Bruckner: Sinfonien 1-9 (Box-Set, Br-Klassik)

70 years of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra: Bruckner’s nine symphonies are a constant in the repertoire of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra (as in those of all major ensembles). The special feature of the 9 CD box now presented by BR Klassik is that the recordings are directed not just by one, but by a total of four conductors who are closely associated with the orchestra and who are all international Bruckner experts. As with no other compilation, the similarities of the interpretation (also due to the same sound body) can be recognized here as well as the differences that may be due to the different interpretive approaches of the respective conductor. At the same time, it becomes clear how much Herbert Blomstedt, Bernard Haitink, Mariss Jansons and Lorin Maazel have made a contribution to Bruckner’s symphonies over the decades (the recordings were made between 1999 and 2017). The 2009 recording of the 9th Symphony conducted by Herbert Blomstedt has not yet been published; those of the 3rd and 4th symphonies under Mariss Jansons have so far only been reserved for a small circle of subscribers and are not officially available in stores. With this box, BR Klassik heralds this year’s milestone birthday of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. Definitely a reason to celebrate!
