“If you’re confused, listen to music!” is Jerry Garcia’s recommendation on the 1975 album Blues for Allah – and there has probably rarely been better advice. After nearly 20 months of self-imposed hiatus, the Grateful Dead produced their new album at guitarist Bob Weir’s studio built into his new home in California. Instead of recording album versions of songs that had matured on stage as usual, this time the band members developed the material together in the studio.
Percussionist Mickey Hart also returned to the band for the recordings. Blues for Allah brings back the typical Dead energy that had been lost through constant touring and financial pressure – The Music Never Stopped. Rob LoVerde remastered the original master tapes for Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab. The hybrid SACD comes in a mini LP cover with an 8-page booklet. The edition is limited to 2,500 copies.
