Wanting to agree on the “best song of all time” around the world is doomed to failure as a project. But the fact is that Bob Dylan wrote one of the most influential pop songs with Like A Rolling Stone. Artists like Jimi Hendrix, Green Day, Cher, Michael Bolton, David Bowie and of course the Rolling Stones have covered it, and one music journalist dedicated an entire book to the title. The six-minute hymn about a young woman from a good family with resentment towards the homeless, who ends up on the street herself in the end, questioned all the rules for radio-compatible songs that had been in force up to that point, not because of its length, but also because of its concerns and maliciousness.
