It is noble, beautiful in sound, stands for timeless value and is almost a symbol for the passion for audiophiles: Black 180 gram vinyl, on which legendary albums are resurrected today, in the middle of the digital age. Four more are now available as large black discs: famous recordings with the Berlin Philharmonic under Simon Rattle, Mozart’s Requiem conducted by Carlo Maria Giulini, Nigel Kennedy’s album East Meets East with his Kroke Band and one of the really great chillout classics: Relax. A top conductor met a top classic back then – the great Italian maestro Carlo Maria Giulini recorded Mozart’s mysterious Requiem in 1978: the production with the Philharmonia Orchestra and Chorus, Helen Donath, Christa Ludwig, Robert Tear and Robert Lloyd mediated years before famous Amadeus film created an emotional pull that laid the foundation for the Requiem’s popularity.
