Sarah McLachlan – Solace (2LPs, 45RPM, Analogue Productions)

On her second album from 1991, Sarah McLachlan is still open to new ideas, but less playful than in her debut “Touch”. The beginnings of great folk pop are already emerging and the path to the ballads, which would later characterize them, is also mapped out. However, the whole thing seems even less perfect and therefore maybe more authentic than the later hit albums like “Surfacing”. She borrows from great role models like Sinead O’Connor and yet finds her own voice and musical poignancy.
