This live recording has everything you would expect from Patricia Barber’s studio albums – and then a little more atmosphere. It is immediately noticeable that a musical homecoming is taking place. The Chicago girl comes back to the club where she has matured into a fixture among jazz vocalists. Their style is on the one hand elegant and on the other hand thoroughly modern. Modern cool and yet suitable for a jazz bar in Chicago.
Those who have not dealt with Patricia Barber before will find the right introduction with these songs. A jazzy mix of popular songs in a live atmosphere and performed with a powerful Hammond organ are not only a feast for audiophile gourmets, but also a test for full-blown hi-fi systems, which have to be checked for volume of the live concert can show the musical subtleties.
The newly released double LP contains You are my Sunshine and So What, two pieces from this evening that were missing from the original release. The LP is pressed for the first three sides with 33rpm and for the fourth side with 45rpm to give the popular Black Magic Women a little extra air. The LP cut comes from Doug Sax and is extremely natural, full and downright velvety. Compared to the MFSL version released years ago, the Premonition edition is perhaps less committed to the original than to the fun factor.
The LP appears in a hinged cover with a gloss varnish seal.
