This new edition of Janos Starker’s 1962 concerto with the London Symphony Orchestra impresses with its breathtaking tonal quality. Even during the recording in Watford Town Hall near London, great importance was attached to the optimal use of the room acoustics; the musicians stood on the floor of the hall, with the best microphone technology from Schoeps above them. With the remastering, Tom Fine and Ryan Smith have upped the ante; Starker’s cello is absolutely rich in nuances and dynamic.
