On his second Blue Note album, Tender Moments, pianist and composer McCoy Tyner explored the colors and textures available in a nonet environment with some of the best musicians of his time: Lee Morgan on trumpet, Julian Priester on trombone, Bennie Maupin on tenor sax, James Spaulding on alto sax and flute, Bob Northern on French horn, Howard Johnson on tuba, Herbie Lewis on bass and Joe Chambers on drums. Among the highlights of the session are dedications to John Coltrane (“Mode to John”) and Thelonious Monk (“The High Priest”) and the stunning ballad “All My Yesterdays”.
Blue Note Tone Poet Series
The Blue Note Tone Poet Series was born out of Blue Note President Don Was’s admiration for the exceptional audiophile Blue Note LP reissues presented by Music Matters. He brought Joe Harley (of Music Matters), also known as the “Tone Poet”, on board to curate and oversee a series of reissues of the Blue Note label family.
Extreme attention to detail has been put into making them right in every possible way, from the jacket graphics and print quality, to the superior LP mastering (direct from the master tapes) by Kevin Gray, to the superb 180-gram audiophile LP pressing by Record Technology Inc. every aspect of these Blue Note / Tone Poet releases is done to the highest possible standard. This means that you will never find a better version. This is IT.
Blue Note Records’ Tone Poet Audiophile Vinyl Reissue Series is produced by Joe Harley and contains fully analog 180g audiophile vinyl reissues mastered from the original master tape in a luxurious gatefold package. Mastering is done by Kevin Gray (Cohearent Audio) and the vinyl is pressed at Record Technology Incorporated (RTI).
