With this album, Reference Recordings presents two new works by the contemporary American composer Jonathan Leshnoff, who is known for his captivating harmonies, the complexity of his work and for powerful themes. The Kansas City Symphony, conducted by Michael Stern, plays on this first recording of its 3rd Symphony. For this, Leshnoff was inspired by letters from soldiers that they sent home during the First World War. Baritone Stephen Powell will sing the lyrics. The program is complemented by a new piano concerto played by Joyce Yang.
