In the remastering by Krieg Wunderlich for Mobile Fidelity, the masterpiece from 1970 scores with incomparable intimacy, realism and details never heard before. The Dead simply sound like they’re sitting right next to them in the living room. Their airy harmonies and clattering guitars to venerable melodies and soulful lyrics are able to restore the listener’s faith in life. American Beauty is of rare quality and a musical highlight.
