Any list of the major electric blues albums of the 1960s is incomplete without Albert King’s Born Under a Bad Sign at the top. Born in Indianola, Mississippi, the “King of the Blues Guitar” who began his professional career in the St. Louis, Illinois suburb of Lovejoy cemented his legacy with his debut album on Stax Records. While he had recorded for labels such as Vee-Jay, Parrot and Bobbin, it was not until he worked with the Stax team – label executives Al Bell, Jim Stewart and Estelle Axton, songwriters Booker T. Jones and William Bell, and the Support for Booker T. & the MGs and the Memphis Horns – made King a star of the blues.
