Bach: Weihnachtsoratorium (2CDs, Br-Klassik)

For many, Christmas without Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, that baroque masterpiece consisting of six cantatas, which tells and comments on the Christmas Gospel from the birth of Christ until the visit of the three orphans, is almost unthinkable. Whether you experience it in a concert or from the CD: it is always a great pleasure. What makes the live recording of the concert performance from December 2010 published here in the Herkulessaal of the Munich Residenz special are the unused voices of the young and excellent vocal soloists, the crystal-clear sound, which is repeatedly praised in the highest tones, and the immense plasticity of the Bavarian Radio Choir under the direction of Peter Dijkstra and of course the renowned original sound ensemble of the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin. And it is also the lively live atmosphere of a concert event that thrilled the audience and even managed to elicit the adjective enchanting from the Munich reviewers, a rare, but in this case well-deserved praise!
