The pianist Martha Argerich gave her first concert at the age of four, performed with orchestras at the age of eight and since she won the competitions in Bolzano and Geneva at the age of 16 and the Chopin competition eight years later, Martha has been considered Argerich as one of the best pianists in the world. But her glowing temper on the one hand and the highly sensitive artist’s mind on the other hand made Martha Argerich a spanner in the works during her career: concerts had to be canceled. The enthusiastic audience that the pianist was able to experience with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra in 1973 and 1983 had completely succumbed to the magic of her playing. The two live recordings of the Concerto in B flat major KV 456 by W.A. Mozart with Eugen Jochum and von Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with Seiji Ozawa can now be heard on this CD and form the start of the BR-KLASSIK ARCHIVE series.
