Alexej Gorlatch won the 2011 ARD music competition as the clear winner in the piano category. With his interpretation of Beethoven’s 3rd Piano Concerto in the finale, he not only convinced the top-class jury, but also the audience and was rewarded with the 1st prize and the audience prize. Alexej Gorlatch was born in 1988 in Kiev / Ukraine and has lived in Germany since 1991. At the age of twelve he became a young student at the University of the Arts in Berlin with Martin Hughes, from 2002 to 2007 he studied with Karl-Heinz Kämmerling at the University of Music and Theater in Hanover, where he is now continuing his studies after graduating from high school. The ARD music competition celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2011. It took place for the first time in 1952 in Munich, where the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation organizes it every year to this day. For many artists, Munich was the springboard to international careers. The winners include Jessye Norman, Thomas Quasthoff, Maurice André, Sol Gabetta and many others.
