Beethoven: Sinfonie Nr. 6 (Mariss Jansons) (CD, Br-Klassik)

The Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra has performed several concerts with Beethoven symphony cycles. The former chief conductor of the BRSO Mariss Jansons, who died in 2019, has expanded this cycle idea in two ways: to include specially awarded composition commissions in which contemporary composers have contributed their own musical reflections on Beethoven symphonies and to the presentation of the outstanding concert events in live recordings on Sound carrier market. After the award-winning complete edition (BR-KLASSIK, 900119) met with the best response from critics and the public, BR-KLASSIK is also presenting Beethoven’s symphonies in individual editions. In addition to the live recording of the Pastorale by Ludwig van Beethoven from the Munich Residence’s Herkulessaal from 2012, the production includes a contribution by the Georgian Giya Kancheli (* 1935), whose work Dixi (I spoke) for choir and orchestra is based on Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony and It premiered in 2009.
