With these two iconic classical works in a first-class interpretation, Reference Recordings once again presents an excellent, audiophile recording by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Manfred Honeck.
In the accompanying booklet, the conductor gives an insight into the history of both pieces and his artistic approach. The “Eroica” was Beethoven’s courageous departure from earlier symphonies. His student Ferdinand Ries wrote: “Beethoven recently played for me (the” Eroica “), and I believe that heaven and earth must tremble when they are performed”.
As the soloist in Strauss’ Horn Concerto No. 1, William Caballero offers a masterful performance of the work. He reveals his thoughts on the history and performance of the concert to Manfred Honeck in an interview, which is also recorded in the booklet.
We recommend the use of “L’Art du Son” CD / DVD conditioner to improve the sound even more.
