Chet Atkins c.g.p. – Sails (Hybrid SACD, Sony)

Chet Atkins is a Nashville country music star, earning an impressive 11 Grammys over the course of his long career. However, he didn’t see himself so much as a country specialist, but rather had a great inclination towards jazz guitar. His later contract with CBS allowed him a lot of musical freedom for his own further development in this area. 1987’s Sails may sound like a typical New Age production with waves and guitars, but it’s an exciting combination of jazz, country and relaxing pop.
