By the time of their last concerts in 1967, the Dave Brubeck Quartet had already existed for 16 years, with more or less the same lineup. That’s how familiar the four of them were with each other! Dave and Paul made their debut at the Black Hawk nightclub in San Francisco. Their trademark: breaking down racial barriers, which they steadfastly fought against even during the most extreme periods of McCarthyism, and making jazz accessible to as many people as possible by reinterpreting ballads, folk songs, or major themes from classical music. Above all, they developed a seemingly endless variety of complex rhythms. In Scheveningen, on the evening of October 24, 1967, the Dave Brubeck Quartet was more than just a jazz band.
