Eddie “Lockjaw” Davis had a distinctive and easily recognizable way of playing his saxophone that earned him his downright apt nickname. He played with Count Basie for many years, but at the same time makes an outstanding solo career. This performance from 1977 shows him in a dream cast with Oscar Peterson on piano, Ray Brown on bass and Jimmie Smith on drums, who used their brilliant skills for an ordinary concert.
