Eric Alexander Quartet – My Favorite Things (LP, Venus)

For My Favorite Things, saxophonist Eric Alexander plays with his favorite bandmates. Together with pianist David Hazeltine, bassist John Webber and drummer Joe Farnsworth he forms a quartet that performs regularly on Manhattan’s jazz scene. Alexander’s repertoire includes standards, works by other tenor saxophonists and bossa nova. Although John Coltrane had an obvious influence on his early sound, Alexander later developed his own sound. His turbocharged rendition of Sonny Rollins’ Airegin is fueled by his fiery rhythm section, while Hazeltine’s soulful, lush accompaniment is the perfect backdrop for the leader in the moving Lover Man. Another good album from Eric Alexander, one of the best saxophonists of his generation. Venus LPs are only pressed once. Once the first edition has been sold, the titles will be removed from the catalogue. Collectors should therefore consider a purchase in good time.
