Tadd Dameron was a jazz pianist and arranger who influenced American bebop in the 30s and 40s. He wrote arrangements for Dizzy Gillespie and Billy Eckstine, played with Miles Davis and made records with John Coltrane, Gil Evans and Kenny Dorham. The Turkish jazz drummer Ferit Odman is now honoring the musician, who died in 1965, with an album.
Together with a string sextet and trumpeter Terell Stafford, guitarist David O’Rourke, pianist Danny Grissett and bassist Peter Washington, Odman shows the relevance of Dameron for young jazz musicians today. In addition, the drummer demonstrates his brilliant playing. In particular, Dameron’s Look, Stop & Listen, written for Philly Joe Jones, shows his artistry and infallible timing that mesmerizes the listener. Take your time and listen to him! Odman is a master of sophistication and grandeur who lets every note and beat speak to you in a way you would never have guessed before.Dameronia With Strings [Audio CD] Odman,Ferit
