Great Singers Live – Nicolai Ghiaurov (CD, Br-Klassik)

Nicolai Ghiaurov’s unmistakable timbre earned him the title “Re di bassi” “King of the Basses” in the opera world. In recordings from two Sunday concerts by the Munich Radio Orchestra, he can be heard performing prime roles in the bass repertoire as well as rarely heard arias by Bizet, Glinka or Rimsky-Korsakov. The program also includes arias from two roles with which Ghiaurov achieved world fame: the title role from “Boris Godunov” and Mephisto from Gounod’s “Faust”.
