Joel Fan became known worldwide through his collaboration with the cellist Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble, with whom he performed at Carnegie Hall in New York, the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and in “Late Night with David Letterman ”. The son of Taiwanese immigrants, who studied piano at Harvard and the Juilliard School of Music, played as a soloist with renowned orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic Orchestra and conducted by Zubin Mehta. His repertoire includes traditional piano literature as well as new music and world music.
Dances For Piano And Orchestra is a compilation of piano concertos, from composers like Chopin and Saint-Saëns to Gabriel Pierné and Ricardo Castrao Herrera, played on a Steinway & Sons. Fan will be accompanied by the Northwest Sinfonietta under the direction of Christophe Chagnard. The recording in the Lagerquist Concert Hall, Tacoma, is the responsibility of “Prof.” Keith O. Johnson.
