Juliane Banse – Im Arm Der Liebe (CD, Br-Klassik)

Juliane Banses current album under the title Im Arm der Liebe is dedicated to orchestral songs from the beginning of the 20th century and presents works and composers that have been very wrongly forgotten. The romantic lyrics are embedded in catchy melodies and a tasty orchestration; they do not need to shy away from comparison with the well-known orchestral songs by Mahler or Strauss. An excellent opportunity to get to know late romantic orchestral songs by Hans Pfitzner, Joseph Marx, Walter Braunfels and Erich Wolfgang Korngold and to experience them in exemplary interpretations. Towards the end of the 19th century, the golden era of the orchestrated piano song and the original orchestral song began with Hugo Wolf and above all with Gustav Mahler: Away with the piano! was his stormy demand; We moderns need such a large apparatus to express our thoughts, whether large or small. Richard Strauss, Hans Pfitzner, Erich Wolfgang Korngold and Max Reger thought and composed very similarly, as did the now forgotten and therefore finally to be rediscovered masters such as Joseph Marx or Walter Braunfels. Together with the Münchner Rundfunkorchester under the direction of Sebastian Weigle, Juliane Banse recorded the orchestral songs in a studio production by Bayerischer Rundfunk in March 2015.
