The sound of cities and a tribute to Charlie Chaplin – Lisa Batiashvili visits eleven places of her life in her music, Katie Melua and Till Brönner are among others their companions. City Lights is a journey through the world. The violinist relates eleven pieces to important places in her life. The autobiographical concept for City Lights is based on the cities that have particular personal, musical or violinistic significance in Batiashvili’s life.
“No matter where you go or how far away you are, you always have a special relationship with places that were once a part of you,” says the violinist. I wanted to express my love for music, culture and the people of these places and pursue what is so special about them in a positive, individual sense. Lisa Batiashvili also plays a suite based on Charlie Chaplin’s Music About City Lights and other of his films. “Chaplin was a multi-talent – film actor, screenwriter, producer, but also a composer of wonderful music. For me, his skills represent the beauty and creative imagination of the 20th century. ”
City Lights brings together a wide variety of genres, including classical music, film music, jazz and tango and includes guest appearances by Katie Melua, Till Brönner and Miloš Karadaglić. The recordings were made in the main broadcasting hall of RBB Berlin in September and October 2019 and in Tbilisi with Lenø Records.
