Liza Minelli is one of the few artists to have won all four of the US entertainment industry’s major awards in the course of her career: Oscar, Grammy Award, Emmy and Tony Award. The daughter of Judy Garland became world famous in the role of variety artist Sally Bowles in the film ‘Cabaret’ and with the title theme of the Scorsese film ‘New York, New York’ – later a world success in the interpretation by Frank Sinatra – she sang her to the city unofficial anthem.
But the greater the fame, the greater the fall. In the 1980s, the former Broadway queen made headlines primarily with affairs, her drug addiction and a series of visits to renowned rehab clinics. It was not until 1987 that she made her comeback with a three-week series of concerts at New York’s Carnegie Hall. There were 17 sold-out concerts in a row and this record has not been broken to this day. The repertoire included well-known jazz standards and musical songs accompanied by a 45-piece orchestra.
