The undeniable youthful energy of “Pronounced Leh-nerd Skin-nerd” shines through the subtly funny songs, all of which are deeply rooted in Southern heritage and working-class values. Regardless of the most requested tune in history, “Pronounced Leh-nerd Skin-nerd” bleeds red, white and blue and embodies the wondrous dichotomies of southern rock. Months before Lynyrd Skynyrd had the privilege of recording their debut, the band were in their seventh year touring pubs and dive bars in an attempt to land a record deal. During a performance at a modest Georgian club, producer/musician Al Kooper was drawn to the group’s boisterous rock, swaggering attitude, working class determination and country-inspired rhythm. The rest is history. Kooper signed the ensemble to his new label and sent them all to a Georgia studio for recording in MarchApril 1973.
