Mahler: Symphony No. 7 (Mariss Jansons) (Hybrid SACD, Br-Klassik)

That the darkness of the night is more than the absence of light, that the night harbors mysterious moods, has repeatedly inspired numerous composers over the centuries. Mahler’s Seventh is also dedicated to the musical tracing of this specific nighttime mood through the movement names of the second (Nachtmusik I), third (Scherzo Schattenhaft) and fourth movement (Nachtmusik II). But beyond that there is no further help for a deeper understanding of this symphony. In order to create a great whole from the highly complex individual voices, a conductor is required who unites the ensemble of individual musicians with soloist level in an overarching musical conception. How convincingly Mariss Jansons and the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks interpreted the multi-layered, detailed score of this Mahler’s work in a recording based on the New Critical Edition of the International Gustav Mahler Society in the Munich concert is shown on this live recording from the Philharmonie on Gasteig, which was created in March 2007 using the high-resolution SACD process.
