Mahler: Symphony, No. 9 (Bernard Haitink) (CD, Br-Klassik)

Two years before his death, Gustav Mahler composed his 9th symphony, the last to be completed. In view of his serious heart disease, the composer dealt with the resulting existential change for his life in this work. Bernard Haitink is a regular guest at the podium of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. In December 2011 the Dutchman conducted Mahler’s 9th Symphony for Mariss Jansons, who was ill at the time, and was highly praised for its age-old interpretation. After Bruckner’s 5th Symphony, this is the second CD release that Bernard Haitink is presenting with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra on the BR-KLASSIK label.
