Marina Rebeka: Amor fatale (Marco Armiliato) (CD, Br-Klassik)

Marina Rebeka is one of the most successful sopranos of her generation. On the occasion of the upcoming Rossini year 2018, she and the Münchner Rundfunkorchester under the direction of Marco Armiliato recorded an album with highly dramatic opera arias, which BR Klassik is now releasing. The album Amor fatale offers the opportunity to get to know the great soprano arias from Rossini’s lesser-known but musically convincing tragic operas in the best possible interpretation. The concept album under the title Amor fatale features strong female roles from the operas Otello, Armida, La donna del lago (The Lady of the Lake), Maometto II, Semiramide (Semiramis), Moïse et Pharaon (Moses and Pharaoh) and Guillaume Tell (Wilhelm Tell ) into the center, who all have to choose between love and duty, subordinate their personal fate to that of their family, people or homeland. The Latvian soprano has some experience with roles, especially from the great tragic operas of Rossini: her career began with the role of Anna Erisso from Maometto II, in which she performed at the 2008 Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, the composer’s birthplace; She attracted international attention when she made her debut as Anaï in Moïse et Pharaon at the Salzburg Festival in 2009. For her album she worked through Rossini’s original score manuscripts and included them in her version; she has also developed her own coloratura, which fit her voice musically and technically and best correspond to the scenic event and the emotion of the respective operatic role in which she slips. The mezzo-soprano Julia Heiler, the tenor Levy Sekgapane, the baritone Gianluca Margheri and the Bavarian Radio Choir will sing together with Marina Rebeka.
