Mozart’s Mass in C minor from 1782 is understood as one of the most outstanding mass settings in European music history, although it is unfinished. The work has only appeared in performance practice since 1901, after the earliest attempt at reconstruction had been made; more followed in 1956 and from the 1980s, after all the sources that have survived were finally available. Each of these versions is more or less successful, each asks its own questions, raises other doubts. The newly created reconstruction / completion of the fair by Clemens Kemme, which was just completed in spring 2018, is limited to the original sources and avoids arbitrary additions. In this version, which has received critical acclaim, the work was recorded for BR in the summer of 2018 under the direction of Howard Arman. This CD presents the first recording of the definitive version of this new and well thought-out reconstruction of Mozart’s C minor Mass. Together with the introduction to the work, it is possible to examine the masterpiece from a new perspective.
