Michel Legrand – Legrand Jazz (LP, Impex)

Michel Legrand’s film scores have garnered countless awards throughout his career. From the Oscar to the Golden Globe Award to the Grammy, he has received almost every recognition that the industry has to offer. Already at the beginning of his career he produced an album, for which he hired over 30 of the best jazz musicians of his time in 1958. Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Bill Evans, Ben Webster, Phil Woods, and just about every other New York session musician agreed to play with Legrand’s idiosyncratic arrangements of standards like “Django,” “Don’t Get Around Much Anymore.” ‘ or ‘Night in Tunisia’. In three different groups they recorded an absolutely unusual album with “Legrand Jazz” in the Columbia studios.
