Bitches Brew shook convention, changed music history and is still ahead of its time forty years after its creation. “Listen to This” was the working title of the album – and this invitation and request is still the best way to approach the work: with open ears. Miles Davis assembled “the best rock & roll band ever heard” for the 1970 recording with musicians like Joe Zawinul, Wayne Shorter, Airto, John McLaughlin, Chick Corea, Jack DeJohnette, Dave Holland, Don Alias, Bennie Maupin , Larry Young and Lenny White.
In the studio, Davis arranged the participants in a semicircle around him, directing their tempo, their solos and their entrances with vague hints. Choosing two, sometimes even three drummers and two bass players puts the rhythm at the center of the music. A veritable galaxy of melodies unfolded from the joint improvisations and the interplay, which were later put together by producer Ted Macero. Remastered by Shawn R. Britton for Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab, this recording can finally be enjoyed in the best quality. The hybrid double SACD is released in a limited edition with a consecutive serial number.
