Mozart: Requiem d-Moll KV 626 – mit Werkeinfuhrung (2CDs, Br-Klassik)

The version of Mozart’s Requiem in D minor KV 626, presented by Howard Arman for the Bavarian Radio Choir, is based on Mozart’s traditional sources and on Süßmayr’s additions; At several points, however, it comes to new insights, which are implemented with careful caution and humble respect for Mozart’s great original. Following Mozart’s Requiem, Neukomm’s newly composed responsory Libera me, Domine will be heard. And for musical, liturgical and chronological reasons the program begins with Mozart’s Vesperae solennes de Confessore KV 339 from 1780, compiled from psalms from the Old Testament and the Magnificat of the Gospel of Luke and created for the liturgical feast of a holy confessor. Howard Arman has placed antiphons in front of Mozart’s movements in the solemn Vespers, which are taken from the second Vespers on the feast day De Confessore Pontifici (in honor of a professed bishop) of the Gregorian Liber usualis. Howard Arman has supplemented these antiphons with specially composed organ intonations.
