Mozart’s last symphonies are still a real miracle for scientists, interpreters and concert audiences. The reason for which they were written is ultimately unknown; as well as whether she might have ever heard Mozart himself during his lifetime. In particular, the symphonies in G minor KV 550 (No. 40) and C major KV 551 (No. 41), which was honored with the nickname Jupiter, are the ones with which Mozart manifested his legacy in the symphonic field for generations of musicians . As early as 1800, the popular great G minor symphony was praised as the painting of a passionately moved soul. Like its big sister, the Jupiter Symphony in C major, it is one of the most played works of classical music today and has already been immortalized in countless recordings. Nevertheless, these symphonies, probably the most profound before Beethoven, reveal themselves anew in every single interpretation. According to Herbert Blomstedt, who is still captivated by the passion of the masterpiece, Mozart brought all the dark sides of human existence into the G minor symphony. The important Swedish conductor Herbert Blomstedt, who feels closely associated with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra as a regular guest conductor, conducted the G minor symphony in concerts on January 31 and February 1, 2013 and the Jupiter symphony on January 21 and 22, 2013 December 2017 in the Herkulessaal of the Munich Residence. The new CD from BR Klassik presents the two great keystones of Mozart’s symphonic oeuvre in the best possible technical sound quality.
