Reference Recordings presents the Utah Symphony, conducted by Thierry Fischer, with two of Sergei Prokofiev’s most brilliant and dramatic works, Alexander Nevsky and the Lieutenant Kije Suite. Both were originally created as scores for the films of the same name. The music for Lieutenant Kije was published in March 1934 and was Prokofiev’s first film score. He soon adapted it into a suite with five movements. First performed in December 1934, it quickly developed into an integral part of the international concert repertoire. In 1938 Prokofiev worked with director Sergei Eisenstein to create the music for Alexander Nevsky. Prokofiev later processed a large part of his score into a large cantata for mezzo-soprano, orchestra and choir, which can be heard on this recording.

Founded in 1940, the Utah Symphony Orchestra gives more than 175 concerts each season and gives its audience access to world-class live music performances. Since his appointment as the orchestra’s seventh music director in 2009, Thierry Fischer has attracted leading musicians and top soloists, refreshed the program and enlarged the audience. The Utah Symphony has released more than 100 recordings. This release was recorded and mastered by the Soundmirror team, whose outstanding orchestral, solo, operatic and chamber music recordings have garnered more than 100 Grammy nominations and awards. For over 40 years Soundmirror has recorded for every major classic record label, including reference recordings.

We recommend the use of “LArt du Son” CD / DVD conditioner to improve the sound even more.
