Following audio biographies on Mahler, Wagner and Verdi, BR-KLASSIK will publish the fourth edition of the series for the Strauss year 2014, currently on Richard Strauss. The Munich-born composer led traditions to mastery in operas such as Elektra and Salome as well as in tone poems, put them in new contexts with virtuosity and, above all, showed the way in the music theater of his time. The three CDs of the edition contain the exciting audio biography (CD1), a selection of letters from Richard Strauss to famous contemporaries such as Hans von Bülow, Cosima Wagner, Stefan Zweig and Hugo von Hofmannsthal (CD2) as well as a representative selection of works that highlight two highlights Strauss works as a composer of tone poems and operas throws (CD3). The author of the audio biography is Anette Unger, who has appeared many times as a Strauss expert, including in the volume Who was Richard Strauss? Nineteen answers. The Austrian conductor Franz Welser-Möst, currently General Music Director of the Vienna State Opera and Chief Conductor of the Cleveland Orchestra has been a welcome guest at the podium of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra for 25 years. Two live recordings from the Munich Residence’s Herkulessaal in 2010 and 2013 include the tone poem An Alpine Symphony from 1915.
