Shelby Lynne – Just a Little Lovin’ (LP, Analogue Productions)

When a singer in the USA gets a Grammy for best new artist after her sixth album and years of wandering between country, southern rock and pop music, then something has gone seriously wrong. If this singer now also wants to record a Dusty Springfield-inspired album, then there is a big question mark and there is only one person who could turn it into an exclamation point. This is Springfield’s producer, Phil Ramone, putting Shelby Lynne in Capitol Records’ legendary Studio A in Hollywood to record an unexpectedly quiet and sonically terrific album.
