Steely Dan – Can’t Buy a Thrill (UHQR, 2LPs, 45RPM, Analogue Productions)

Steely Dans’ debut album Can’t Buy A Thrill has definitely earned its place in various best lists such as Rolling Stone’s “500 Greatest Albums of All Time”. Songs like “Do It Again” and “Reelin’ In The Years,” featuring guest musician Elliot Randall’s beautiful guitar solo (which, by the way, is one of Led Zeppelins’ Jimmy Page’s favorite solos), kickstarted Steely Dan’s career. The album differs from the band’s subsequent releases not least by the use of blue-eyed soul singer David Palmer as lead singer, but also by the tentative jazz decorations that characterize the later albums.
