Strauss: Alpine Symphony (CD, Br-Klassik)

For the 2014 Strauss year, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra under Franz Welser-Möst, who has been a welcome guest on the orchestra’s podium for 25 years, is presenting a selection of works that highlights the most important genres in Richard Strauss’ oeuvre: symphonic poetry and Opera. In addition to the Alpine Symphony, the four symphonic interludes from the opera Intermezzo from 1924 stand in for this. As much as the music of this bourgeois comedy is indebted to the light and entertaining, Strauss returned the four interludes from the opera to the sound poetic and sonorous symphonic for the concert hall, and which still maintain their permanent place there today.
