The Oscar Peterson Trio – West Side Story (2LPs, 45RPM, Analogue Productions)

Leonard Bernstein’s “West Side Story” was one of the first Broadway musicals with an overt jazz influence. The history of rival street gangs inspired many musicians to record the music, including Oscar Peterson. In 1962, he and his trio gave seven of the tracks from the film of the same name a slight swing note and put them on vinyl for the Verve label. He is accompanied by Ray Brown on bass, Toots Thielemans on harmonica and Ed Thigpen on piano and drums.
