The Remarkable Carmell Jones (LP, Blue Note)

Trumpeter Carmell Jones was 24 years young when he left his hometown of Kansas City for Los Angeles in 1960. And soon after his arrival, the promising youngster, who some compared to Clifford Brown at the time, landed a record deal there with Pacific Jazz. In 1961 he was able to record his phenomenal debut album “The Remarkable Carmell Jones” for the label. In cooperation with tenor saxophonist Harold Land, pianist Frank Strazzeri, bassist Gary Peacock and drummer Leon Pettis, he presented a highly interesting mixture of cool jazz and hard bop on the album.
